Will break the Korean factory monopoly? BOE flexible OLED screen production

This week, BOE Chengdu 6-generation flexible OLED panel production line was mass-produced. This is China's first, the world's second-generation 6-generation flexible OLED panel line, breaking the monopoly of Korean companies in the flexible OLED panel market. The upcoming Apple iPhone X brings up the enthusiasm for flexible OLED screens, but it also thins the current limited flexible screen resources. In the short term, despite the addition of multiple suppliers in China, the global flexible OLED screen is still in short supply.


BOE flexible OLED screen mass production

Unlike LCDs (liquid crystals), OLEDs are organic light-emitting materials. During the manufacturing process, the stability is not as high as inorganic materials. In the production process of small and medium OLED screens, red, green, and blue OLED materials need to be evaporated onto the panels, and the increase in product yield is a great challenge. Samsung Electronics began manufacturing OLEDs from about 2000. In 2005, it began to manufacture flexible OLEDs. It has accumulated more than 10 years of experience in production processes. For Chinese enterprises to emerge from the future, they must continue to explore and innovate in order to achieve catch-up.

BOE began researching OLED as early as 2002. By the end of 2017, the number of OLED related patents has exceeded 16,000. BOE Chengdu's 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line is China's first fully-flexible AMOLED production line and the world's second-generation sixth-generation flexible AMOLED production line.

The 6th generation OLED line in Chengdu applies advanced vapor deposition technology and cuts the glass substrate to one-half for vapor deposition. This technology is highly difficult and is the first AMOLED production line in China using this technology. At the same time, a low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) plastic substrate is used instead of the conventional amorphous silicon (a-Si) glass substrate, and a flexible packaging technology is adopted to realize bending and folding of the display screen.


BOE 5.5-inch flexible OLED display

In respect of OLED product innovation, BOE launched a 5.5-inch flexible OLED display that can realize "S"-shaped bending; 7.8-inch flexible foldable display, which can achieve a folding fold of 5mm in radius; it can combine mobile phones and tablet computers. A variety of flexible products such as a 7.56-inch flexible AMOLED display. In addition, there is a 5.5-inch OLED display with more than 95% display and a 1.53-inch in-cell touch OLED display.
