The situation "forces" China's flat panel display industry

Looking back at the past decade, the TFT-LCD industry in China has undergone a transformation. The reason, I think, is "to force it out." Because China used to be a big manufacturing country for CRT, color TV industry occupies an important position in China's national economy and information industry. From the 60s of last century, after 40 years of efforts, by 2007, China has already had the production capacity of 10 million televisions and 100 million color tubes. The cumulative production of color TVs has exceeded 750 million units, and the sales volume has reached 145 billion yuan. Profits and taxes reached nearly 80 billion yuan; cumulative production of 852 million color tubes, sales revenue of 422 billion yuan, and tax revenue of 3 billion yuan, that is to say, the sum of two taxes exceeded 110 billion yuan; cumulative total of color TVs exceeded 260 million units , Foreign exchange earned 60 billion U.S. dollars. By 2007, there will be 200,000 employees in China's color TV industry, plus peripheral personnel, which will probably solve the 400,000 employed population. If the industry is allowed to fend for itself, it will cause a lot of social problems. Therefore, the country will shift its development focus to the flat-panel display industry and “force it”.

Although China's LCD industry is developing rapidly, the production capacity of 20 TFT-LCD production lines already built and under construction accounts for about 22% of global production capacity. However, when we look back, we are still at a late stage. In fact, ten years ago, many people, including certain government officials and experts, did not believe that CRT TVs would decline so early, and some people still hoped that they could bypass TFT-LCDs to directly develop next-generation display technologies. The reason is It is thought that the TFT-LCD industry started in the 1990s and China has already been relatively backward. Since it is backward, it can be done. In fact, this suspicion still exists. In the case that most LCD companies do not make money, many people also doubt whether "it is necessary to make liquid crystal" and think that "the United States has not developed the liquid crystal display industry." In fact, the reason is very simple. Americans can not develop liquid crystals, or even develop the display industry, because they do not engage in related manufacturing at all. China is a big country in electronics manufacturing. Many products are inseparable from LCD screens. At the same time, we have such a huge team and system as the CRT. Therefore, we must do a good job in the LCD industry. For those who bypass the TFT-LCD directly to catch up with the follow-up technology is not correct, the technological development of the past few years has proved that TFT technology can not bypass, even if AMOLED also need TFT as a basis. South Korea's current AMOLED technology is a large part of the reason, because it is a big TFT country.

It is because of the above reasons that the liquid crystal display was written into the eleventh and twelfth five-year plans and was included in the electronic revitalization plan launched in 2009 as a strategic emerging industry development. The industries that LCD industry was concerned about by the Chinese industry ten years ago have only really developed in recent years.

Combined with the development of the TFT-LCD industry in recent years, the following personal points of view are available for reference and discussion.

First, we must have a strategic vision in the development of modern industry. In fact, LCD industry development direction has been very clear from 2002 to 2003, but hesitation and controversy, including the question of whether or not the government of the competitive industry should have managed, took a certain amount of time and delayed many things. In fact, many things need to be done and they must do it. They do not need to worry too much about other people's ideas. Only when our own industrial strength is improved can we have the right to speak.

Second, we must have confidence in ourselves. We must not only think about the introduction. We must figure out things quickly and we must be self-reliant. Facts have proved that in the construction of the High Generation Line, blindly introducing or relying on the construction of people, most of them now have problems. Well-developed production lines are those that rely mainly on their own strength to achieve solid results. We must strengthen our independent research and development, encourage self-reliance and believe in our R&D strength. At the same time, from the government's point of view, we should make great efforts and resources to support enterprises in their own research and development.

Third, we must concentrate our efforts on the formation of a fist enterprise and not be able to rise up. Now many local governments and enterprises have great enthusiasm for the flat panel display industry, but the problem is sometimes with great blindness. Fortunately, the threshold of the TFT industry is relatively high, and there is no such situation as solar photovoltaic. For the next step in the development of OLED technology, in the current case of immature technology, do not encourage the immediate construction of swarms, especially to blindly introduce technology. You know, simply relying on imports is not leading technology, especially when a high technology is in its early stages of development. When the technology is not mature, we must not adopt extensive construction methods. Otherwise, we will only waste resources. At the end, no one will ever make it.
