With the support of the country, what opportunities and challenges will the lighting industry face? How does the company maintain steady development? Despite the extensive market demand and strong support from the state, the domestic LED industry is still very lacking in core technology. How do they tackle this key technology? Faced with various questions, recently, China Lighting Network reporter made a visit to Mr. Li Gang, the general manager of Shanghai Lanbao Optoelectronic Materials Co., Ltd. In the interview, Mr. Li and the reporter talked about the current development of the company and the direction of the future.

China Lighting Network: Among the many manufacturers of chips at home and abroad, Sapphire has been able to maintain a steady and upward development momentum and continue to grow. What do you think is the advantage of Sapphire?

Li Gang: As far as the current scale is concerned, Sapphire Optoelectronics does not have obvious advantages in China, especially in 2008, because Sapphire Optoelectronics did not make large-scale investment in fixed assets, which made Sapphire’s ranking in domestic and international production capacity. It has slipped, but Sapphire’s investment in other areas has not been reduced. After more than a year of hard work and preparation, especially under the correct leadership of the board of directors, through the joint efforts of the management team members, Lanbao has gradually formed its own competitive advantage and laid a solid foundation for the rapid development in the future.

I personally think that the main advantages of Sapphire are reflected in the following aspects. The semiconductor lighting industry is facing a period of rapid development. It is a good time for China's governments at all levels to support the semiconductor lighting industry. So the board of directors, management team and technical team of Sapphire will manage and manage Sapphire, and the future of Sapphire. There is a high degree of agreement between development goals and approaches. With the right time and the right place, I think the development of the company is just a process of how to achieve the set goals.

At the beginning of 2009, Sapphire officially formed an alliance with the top semiconductor lighting laboratory of the United States led by Professor Nakamura Shuzo, the inventor of Blu-ray technology, and became the only company in the country that can share their patents, technologies and equipment. This is the future development of Sapphire. Better solved the patent and technology source issues. Through the cross-docking and mutual visits between the personnel and the targeted personnel training, it also created conditions for Sapphire to establish a sustainable R&D team, and then laid the foundation for the introduction of absorption and digestion innovation.

China Lighting Network: Although it has extensive market demand and strong support from the state, the domestic LED industry is still very lacking in core technology. What is the situation of Sapphire in the key technology? What is the brightness of Sapphire's current lab release and mass production?

Li Gang: At present, the luminous efficiency of the high-power chip produced by Sapphire is between 90-100. At the end of last year, the laboratory level accepted by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission has exceeded 100. I think that in the first half of this year, the luminous efficiency of the Sapphire industrial high-power chip should be less than 100. The National 863 project undertaken by Sapphire Company can be completed as scheduled. The next step is to focus on the enhancement of quantum efficiency in polar and non-polar epitaxial layers and the research and development of new low-cost, high-efficiency, high-power and low-power chip manufacturing technologies. The improvement of quantum efficiency in non-polar epitaxial layers will mainly lead to the technological high point of three to five years after the introduction of absorption and digestion innovation, while the quantum efficiency in the polar epitaxial layer is improved and the new low-cost high-efficiency high-power and low-power chips The research and development of manufacturing technology will be mainly based on its own capabilities. Experimental research has achieved breakthroughs in several key technologies, and soon new products will be put on the market. These technologies and products will become the core technology for the development of Sapphire in the future, and will also have an impact on improving the benefits of Sapphire this year.

China Lighting Network: In recent years, the development of Sapphire has been very fast. What is the current production capacity and sales situation? Whether the products of Sapphire are also used in display and backlight, what is the proportion of products used in display, backlight and lighting?

Li Gang: In terms of sales, at present, Sapphire is basically chased by customers and cannot be supplied. In terms of production capacity, the construction plan for the new manufacturing base was confirmed at the end of last year, and all work was carried out as planned. I think before the end of this year, Sapphire's production capacity will have a leap-forward growth to meet the needs of corporate customers and the market. I think that as long as the semiconductor chip factory is focused, as long as the market positioning of the products is clear, the quality is reliable, and the cost performance is high, there should be no problem in the sales of chips in 2010.

China Lighting Network: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued nine industry standards on LEDs, which were officially implemented on January 1, 2010. What role do you think the standard setting will play for the entire LED industry and how will it affect the sapphire?

Li Gang: I personally think that there are always better standards than no standards. But only those few standards can't play a big or immediate role in the semiconductor lighting industry. The standard for TV backlighting has not yet been seen, but it seems to have had a huge impact on the industry and the lives of ordinary people. The use of LEDs for general lighting is nothing more than a change in the filament. There is no essential difference between using a liquid crystal TV as a backlight. Therefore, I don't think that the future LED bulb and lamp connector will be different from the current incandescent and fluorescent lamp connectors. That is to say, the most important LED bulb and lamp use and market access standards have already existed. These standards and people's usage habits cannot be changed because of the use of LED bulbs and tubes.

Nowadays, good quality products complain that the poor quality products disturb their market. It seems unfair and should be regulated by standards. I personally think that by standard setting the quality access conditions, the result may be half the effort. Because administrative means cannot be used, standards cannot be used to replace or limit market behavior and product competition. The life of incandescent lamps is only 2,000 hours. Why are people still willing to buy them? It is cheap and convenient. Then, if there is more than 50% energy saving of LED bulbs, the life expectancy is only 5,000 hours, the price is almost the same as that of incandescent lamps, and the interface is exactly the same. Is there such a market for such products? There must be, but such products are not able to meet the 50,000-hour standard. Obviously, such standards hinder the development of the industry. Foreign companies talk about luminous efficiency every day. It is not impossible to be a strategy to let everyone enter a misunderstanding. Luminous efficiency is important, but not all. The problem now is that the quality of LED bulbs and tubes is not too good, and the price is not high enough. Once the quality and cost-effectiveness issues are truly solved, inferior products are naturally eliminated and they are unable to enter the sales channel.

China Lighting Network: What do you think of the current semiconductor lighting market in China? Which of the two aspects of LED lighting and indoor lighting do you think is more advantageous?

Li Gang: China's semiconductor lighting market should be a hundred schools of thought, and there is a lot of competition, but it is basically difficult to become a big climate. If there is no change in the concept, I think that they will withdraw from the historical stage in a few years. Since semiconductor lighting is to enter the ordinary lamps of thousands of households, the brand and sales channels of the products are crucial, even more important than the technology and the products themselves. At present, there is no domestic lighting or lighting company operating in the market and brand of semiconductor lighting. On the contrary, foreign companies have carried out brand promotion in various exhibitions and conferences in China. I think they will extend the scope of propaganda to the people soon. Once a word of mouth is formed, domestic large-scale semiconductor lighting companies will become foundries, and semiconductor lighting companies of no size will basically have no room for survival.

Before the outdoor aging problem is finally solved, the LED should be more suitable for indoor use, or indoor use has more advantages.
