Littelfuse , the world's leading provider of circuit protection solutions, today announced the introduction of a low-capacitance TVS diode array optimized for protecting electronic devices that may experience destructive electrostatic discharge (ESD). The SP814x family of TVS diode arrays (SPA? Diodes) integrates four or six ultra-low capacitance rail-to-rail diode channels and additional Zener diodes to safely absorb the highest levels above the IEC61000-4-2 international standard Repeated ESD discharge (±8kV contact discharge) without degrading performance. Ultra-low load capacitance (1.0pF (typ.) per input/output), lower series resistance than semiconductor devices, and fast response make it ideal for protecting electronic equipment with high-speed signal pins For example, HDMI2.0, USB3.0, USB2.0, and IEEE1394.

Applications for the SP814x family include LCD/PDP TVs, external storage, DVD/Blu-ray players, desktop/server, notebook/tablet, set-top boxes, cell phones, flash memory cards and digital video cameras.

"The SP814x series is an economical alternative to semiconductor common mode filters (CMF), although the latter is considered to bring value, but it cannot filter unwanted signals or noise fast enough, which brings signals. Integrity issues," said Tim Micun, product manager for transient suppression diode arrays. "For most high-speed interfaces, the use of such CMF devices means overly detailed requirements for circuit protection and cost overruns. Due to the small form factor of CMF devices, the SP814x family of TVS diode arrays is easy to use. Low cost options do not affect ESD protection performance."

The SP814x family of TVS diode arrays offers the following outstanding advantages:

• Low capacitance (1.0pF(typ.)) minimizes signal degradation or attenuation of high-speed data, allowing engineers to achieve more signal margin in their designs.

• Low leakage current (25nA (TYP) at 5V) is beneficial for extending battery life and protecting signal integrity, as excessive leakage can be seen as an additional capacitor for high speed differential pairs.

• Enhanced ESD capability (±22kV contact discharge, ±22kV air discharge) allows manufacturers to achieve ESD protection beyond the highest levels of IEC standards and address a host of other threats to ensure product reliability in actual use.

• Compact form factor (μDFN, JEDEC MO-229 package) saves valuable board space, simplifies board layout, and protects space-constrained applications such as smartphones. The footprint is the same as for semiconductor CMF, allowing for through-wiring of solutions for ESD only.

Availability

The SP814x series is available in a tape and reel package with a minimum order quantity of 3,000. Samples are available from authorized Littelfuse distributors around the world. For a list of Littelfuse authorized dealers, visit Littelfuse.com.
