Film Capacitors: New MKP Film Capacitors for AC Applications

The TDK Group has recently introduced a new line of EPCOS MKP (metallized polypropylene) film capacitors (B3275*), which are ideal for AC applications with high ripple currents. The new series of capacitors are rated for 250VRMS, 275VRMS, and 310VRMS, with capacitance values ​​between 1μF and 70μF.

Its outstanding highlight is its excellent resistance to humidity and heat, which can be tested by high temperature and high humidity (THB) test (rated voltage, ambient temperature of 60 ° C, continuous humidity of 95% under continuous pressure for 1,000 hours). The MKP (metallized polypropylene) film capacitors have a maximum operating temperature of 105 ° C: their enclosures and epoxy packages are UL94V-0 compliant. Depending on the product's capacitance and voltage rating, the pin spacing of the capacitors is 27.5mm, 37.5mm or 52.5mm, of which 37.5mm and 52.5mm pitch are available in four-pin models.

At a temperature of 70 ° C and a voltage of 90% of the rated voltage, the expected life of the capacitor can be as long as 60,000 hours. This series is mainly used in converters, uninterruptible power supplies and output filters for variable speed drives.
