Vishay's new low AC input current optocoupler saves more than 60% of board space

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of two new series of 4pin, low AC input current optocouplers with phototransistor output - VOS628A and VOS627A, expander optoelectronics portfolio. Both devices are available in a small SSOP-4 miniature flat package and feature a two-molded structure that saves more than 60% board space compared to the DIP-4 package, and the high voltage performance is superior to other suppliers' coplanar structures.

With low AC input currents of ±1mA (VOS628A) and ±5mA (VOS627A), these optocouplers are available today for programmable logic controllers, industrial control systems, and office automation equipment. These devices protect device users from electric shock and protect microprocessors in these systems from voltage spikes.

The VOS628A and VOS627A series in a half-pitch micro-flat package offer multiple current transfer ratios (CTR) from 50% to 600%, giving designers more flexibility. Devices are also referred to as an optical isolator, having a GaAs infrared plane may be formed with a silicon phototransistor detector optically coupled emitting diode. The SSOP-4 package provides a device isolation voltage of 3750VRMS, a half-lead pitch of 1.27mm (50mils), and a creepage and safety distance greater than 5mm. The new series of optocouplers are RoHS compliant 2011/65/EU and comply with Vishay 's "green" standards. These devices are certified to UL, CSA (Double Protection), VDE, FIMKO, and CQC safety standards.

Samples are available now and are available in volume production with standard lead times of four to six weeks.
